I am going back to hunt Potters Fields again this year for another 4 day 5 night outing, because they provide the very best pheasant hunting. Zach and Kim work very hard to assure everyone is enjoying a realistic South Dakota hunting experience, which is exactly what I wanted. Myself and my hunting partners had very successful hunts in previous years at Potter's Fields Outfitters & Lodge. Zach is very knowledgeable guide and makes the most of every hour in the field. I have been hunting pheasant for over forty five years. I can honestly say that Potter's Fields Outfitters & Lodge is the best I have seen at providing consistently high quality pheasant hunting. I now have many terrific memories as a result of my visits to Potter's Fields Outfitters & Lodge. I highly recommend that you and your hunting friends create pheasant hunting memories at Potter's Fields Outfitters & Lodge with Zach and Kim.
My 2016 South Dakota pheasant hunting experience with Potters Fields was outstanding. This is the third time to Potters Fields for me and my party. Zach and his family made us feel like a part of the family. We came for a 4 day 4 night hunt. Our quest was to hunt the wild native pheasants and that we did. Zach was able to put us on birds every day ensuring a high success rate. Looking forward to coming back. Many thanks to Zach and his family for the great memories.
We took a group of clients and family to visit Potter's Fields Outfitters and Lodge for a 3 day 3 night stay and it was absolutely fantastic. 4 bedroom 2 bath lodge is perfect for a group of 6-8 people. The lodge is quaint and comfortable with all of the amenities you would need for an incredible trip (hot showers, WIFI, SAT TV, comfortable beds), but more important than the lodge or great food was the hunting.
The first day we shot almost to our limit with many chances to get to it. Zach worked until dusk to make the day very full and fun. The second day we hit our limit by the afternoon and the third day we were done within 2 hours! The guide and owner, Zach Potter is one of the hardest working guides I have ever been around with a great personality and an impeccable selection of 5 labs. He had complete control over the dogs and put us fields we only could dream about.
Kim Potter, Zach's father, worked hard as hell preparing wonderful traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, yogurt and really anything you wanted. The steak dinner and traditional Guatemalan send off meal were delicious. He and Zach make you feel right at home trading their stories from other hunts, Kim's history as a local furrier fills the night with a lot of drinks and a lot of laughs.
Plan on being amazed and rebooking because compared to other great lodges this one is the real keeper and hopefully will remain the secret to anyone who experiences it.
Finally, the terrain around Bridgewater is far more beautiful and sporting including natural pheasant habitat, creek beds, swales, cattails, switchgrass, corn, pasture, alfalfa and forest. The area will surprise you as the variation makes the hiking and hunting far superior to the commercial outfits near Mitchell where you are stuck in a school bus and corn and milo the entire day.
Potter's Fields Outfitters & Lodge were outstanding hosts for our trip to South Dakota, I brought a group of 10 customers and we had an outstanding experience. They were very professional and courteous to our group and did a great job getting us on the birds! The habitat and management is handled well. I look forward to our next trip.
